Cripple Creek (Clawhammer Banjo)

Published February 25, 2004

About: The first recording in the Folktunes collection is Cripple Creek, played on the open-backed five-stringed banjo in the clawhammer style.

How learned: Martha Owen taught me this tune in the Summer of 2000 at the John C. Campbell Folk School. It was the first song I ever learned on Banjo.

Chord Progression: G - C G / - - D G :// G - - - / - - D G ://

  1. Slow & simple
  2. Sped up a little bit
  3. Added some drop-thumbing
  4. Tuning reference (open G: gDGBD)
  5. Some gabbing
